Developing and Evaluating the Educational Curriculum in the Department of Social Work

On 21 May 2026, the Department of Sociology at the College of Humanities organized a workshop to evaluate and discuss the educational curriculum for the Department of Social Work. The workshop was conducted under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Humanities, Saed Khudeida, with the participation of Muslih Irwani from University of Soran, as well as Mahdi Abbas and Hakim Qadir Taha from Salahaddin University-Erbil, together with all faculty members of the Department of Sociology at University of Duhok.

The aim of the workshop was to review and evaluate the proposed curriculum for the Department of Social Work, whose establishment has been requested by the Department of Sociology.

The Department of Social Work has become an essential need for all societies today. This department academically prepares students to serve individuals, families, and all social institutions and organizations within the community.

Main Objectives of the Department:

* Preparing professional specialists who can scientifically address social problems and challenges.

* Providing services to social groups, especially children, women, the elderly, and people with special needs.

* Promoting social justice and human rights through spreading the values of equality, human dignity, and respect for social diversity.

* Enhancing practical work in solving social issues and implementing case management through scientific research.

* Strengthening the relationship between the university and society by encouraging students to conduct fieldwork in cooperation with governmental and non-governmental institutions and various community organizations outside the university.
