The College of Humanities / Department of Archaeology, in collaboration with the Directorate of Antiquities and Heritage in Duhok Governorate and the Italian Universities of Udine and Ca' Foscari, held an international workshop under the title (New Archaeological Researches on the Ancient Empires in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq) on Monday, 20/10/2025, at 9:00 AM, in the Peshmerga Hall at the University of Duhok.
Several topics were discussed in this workshop, such as archaeological research and the archaeological survey which uncovered approximately 1200 archaeological sites in Duhok Governorate. Discussions also covered several artifacts dating back 3000-3500 years before Christ, such as the Chwar Stin Cave and Halamata on the Fayda water canal, which belong to the period of the Assyrian King Sennacherib. Furthermore, the workshop addressed the methods of burying the dead in ancient times, livestock farming in the Kurdistan Region, the making of bread and flour, and how clay ovens (Tannurs) were made.
Finally, the discussion and exchange session was opened, and students asked many questions to the workshop guests, who provided academic and scientific answers.
