With the aim of establishing a new Department of Social Work within the College of Humanities, a workshop was organized by the Department of Sociology on May 21, 2026, at the Cultural and Intellectual Center.
The workshop brought together faculty members from the Departments of Social Work at the Universities of Soran and Salahaddin, as well as faculty members from the Department of Sociology at the University of Duhok.
The main objective of the workshop was to develop and design the curriculum for the proposed Social Work Department and to compare it with existing Social Work curricula offered at universities across the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. The workshop also included a review and evaluation of the Sociology Department curriculum to ensure its relevance to current academic standards and labor market needs.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants presented a number of recommendations and observations aimed at strengthening the proposed curriculum and enhancing the academic and practical preparation of future Social Work students.
